Source: DAH Project: 3D Models

During our 3D model photo session at the Ackland, I had a little bit of trouble with Autodesk 123D Catch–I ended up with a model of the walls, but not the central figure! Instead of uploading that failed model via Sketchfab, this is one I did several months ago, of a sculpture on display at the Black Mountain College Museum + Arts Center exhibition, Convergence/Divergence: Exploring Black Mountain College and Chicago’s New Bauhaus/Institute of Design. I haven’t edited out the background, and zooming in to the actual sculpture (the tiny, dark, metal object) takes a bit of deftness. Eventually, you should be able to zoom to a 3D model of something that looks more or less like the sculpture in the foreground of this image.

I also experimented with Agisoft Photoscan, using images I took with my DSLR at the Ackland. The object is Robert Graham’s Source Figure Fragment (1992). In my first pass at this, I had the same issue as with 123D Catch–too much background. I used the mask tool to cover much of the background noise, which helped, but this model, represented here via screenshot, still has many gaps–more photos would have helped.
